Trauma Touch Esthetics

✨Hello Beautiful Esty!✨

Welcome to Trauma Touch Esthetics ~ a trauma-informed mental wellness signature coaching program created to advance trauma-informed education and treatment protocols for professional Estheticans and students.

Trauma is more than a buzzword — it is part of our human experience. We can no longer ignore the need for every industry to step up their game, and the spa industry is no exception. Our industry is poised to take the lead in providing trauma-informed education for the entire staff—but especially for spa professionals who offer ‘touch’ services. Spa professionals have a responsibility to protect our clients’ vulnerability by providing a container of safety in the treatment room and beyond. In addition to protecting clients, it’s imperative to also provide safety for your staff, and for yourself.

Thankfully, trauma-informed education for Bodyworkers has gained momentum in the industry but not so much for Estheticians and spa personnel, for that matter. NOW is the time for Estheticians to take a seat at the table and join the conversation about mental, emotional and spiritual wellness. As ethical skin care professionals, we not only treat our clients’ skin care needs, we also steward our clients’ healing experience because they entrust us to nurture and care for them in a safe environment. The trust we build with our clients is intimate and sacred. There are moments we hear about or witness our clients’ trauma — sometimes the client shares about their experience in the treatment room for the first time. During my time in the treatment room, I met so many people who shared stories involving a traumatic event. The only skill I could offer was to ‘hold space’ for them — and even though my being present was sufficient, I wanted to do more than just be a witness to their vulnerable experience. I just didn’t know how — there were no training manuals, mentorship, or resources available. So, when I learned how to work with the experience of trauma as a psychotherapist, I was determined to integrate that training into the spa environment so Estheticians could feel confident about their role in the treatment room and beyond.

We have reached new level in this arena, and I encourage you to contribute to your clients’ healing journey by pursuing a trauma-informed education with Trauma Touch Esthetics.

We appreciate your interest and patience as my team and I curate the highest quality training experience for you. The Trauma Touch Esthetics modules are currently in production. What is Trauma Touch Esthetics?

Trauma Touch Esthetics is a educational platform to advance trauma-informed treatment protocols for professional Estheticians and spa staff in the spa environment. The mission and purpose is driven by the need to provide a safe container when caring for spa clients. A trauma-informed education is essential within the paremeters of a spa, studio, wellness center, and especially in the treatment room.

Consciously or not, trauma disrupts the lives of billions of people. Unfortunately, everyone has a story, an event or a memory buried in the cells of their body.

—But, what exactly IS trauma?

TRAUMA is experienced when an event occured beyond a person’s control. It could be an isolated event or a series of events that occurred over a lifetime. Trauma causes imbalances in a person's psyche, their emotional body and their Spirit.

Symptoms of trauma can present as being easily startled or frightened, guarded, expressing self-destructive behaviors, insomnia, nightmares, irritability, angry outbursts, or aggressive behavior. The body can exhibit signs and reactions such as exhaustion, confusion, sadness, fearful, depression, anxiety, agitation, numbness, dissociation, migraines, and digestive issues.

So, you might be asking, “How does this impact me, as an Esthetician?” Consider that 1 in 4 of your clients has experienced one, or a series of events in their lifetime that was traumatizing. Would you be able to recognize the signs? Would you know what to do if a client experienced symptoms of their trauma in your treatment room, at the front desk, or anywhere else in your facility? Your client may experience a flashback, dizziness, or a physical release during a treatment and start crying or sobbing. Are you prepared to respond appropriately? Most spa practitioners treating clients with deep emotional reactions would not know how to respond or what to do because spa professionals do not receive trauma-informed training and are typically not prepared to respond in a way that enhances emotional safety.

A properly trained trauma-informed practitioner will be able to provide a safe and protective container and a trusting environment for healing..
